For the first time in the history of the National Irrigation Administration-Region 02 and NIA-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS) a one-day sports competition between the two (2) regions was held last January 11, 2019 at the compound of the National Irrigation Administration, Minante 1, Cauayan City, Isabela.
The event dubbed as “All-star Game” arose when NIA-Region 2 Acting Regional Irrigation Manager Constancio G. Bana-ay, Jr., during a flag-raising ceremony had challenged Engr. Wilfredo C. Gloria, the Department Manager A of NIA-MARIIS for a sports showdown after the Sports Festival of the respective Regions. Engr. Gloria confident of the accomplishments of NIA-MARIIS in terms of project completion and in sports, did not buckle down on the challenge.
During the opening program of the ALL-STAR Game, Engr. Bana-ay, Jr. in his message stated that NIA-MARIIS is known for its excellent project completion rating, way above NIA-Region 2 but confident that NIA Region 2 can beat NIA-MARIIS in the sports category. Both Managers however emphasized that the event is for employees of both regions to interact and have fun with each other through sports. The sports to be competed upon were: volleyball, badminton, dart, table tennis, chess and jolen relay.
The best men and women players of NIA-Region 2 and NIA-MARIIS composed of various players from respective offices, including field offices equally showed their prowess in the various sports.
In all the games, NIA-MARIIS had sufficiently proved its power. NIA-MARIIS had dominated four (4) games: Badminton, Dart, Table Tennis including the fun game of Jolen Relay. Volleyball women had also dominated the first three (3) sets in a very close game for the best of five (5) play set, while volleyball men succumbed to NIA-Region 2.
